I was so delighted this weekend to get my advance copies of the great American magazine, Watercolor Artist. They were kind enough to ask me at the start of the summer if I’d like to be featured, and it took me all of three seconds to say ‘yes please’ I sent them a selection of recent drawings, each with some background information, and was really pleased when they picked one of my favourites for the article….a drawing of the path at Staithes( known as the Old Stubble) leading from the car park at the top of the village, which passes the cottage in which I’ve exhibited for the last 6 years of the annual Staithes Art Festival. It’s the one with the red roof: Broome Cottage, at the top of Mount Pleasant. I was lucky enough to sell the resulting full size drawing at the festival, and a couple of development sketches, too, so it’s obviously a view which resonates with folk, especially if they’ve actually walked down the path to be presented with the breathtaking view out to the North Sea. I’m especially pleased that there are some of my favourite artists in the issue, too, especially Shari Blaukopf, the very talented Canadian artist, whose painting is on the cover.
Now, back to working on my top secret commission: version three after my meeting this morning…..all will be revealed when I’m allowed to: trust me, I’m beside myself when I stop to think how and where it’ll be used, and how many folk will see my drawing!!!
