Staying in..

So, how are we all? Staying put, I assume, apart from the permitted trips for essential victuals and exercise?
Me? Well, my garage/shed/art spaces have never been tidier or more organised..& that’s only a week in!
Decided that this week should be more art and drawing focused, so to kick off, I filmed a new stage one clip: a pen and wash demo piece in my sketchbook ( well, one of the three I’m currently working in!).
It’s up on my YouTube channel now … do let me know what you think: commentary useful or not? I’m slowly learning how to use iMovie ( managed a title😜)… do you think an end title, listing materials I used, would be useful?
Here’s the link…& do stay safe.

Even stranger, take 2

I’m unsure if this morning’s post worked…do let me know if you see this, or the earlier one ?

thank you.

Even stranger times…

Well, who’d have thought we’d all be living in the world we woke up to this morning? The key thing is for us all to stay safe and healthy, be kind and thoughtful to others, try be positive and keep calm.

One of the first things I’ve done, given the spare Saturday I suddenly find myself faced with- I should be running a workshop today as part of the Horsnea art Festival- is to add a new page to my site, featuring some original drawings for sale, direct from me…you should be able to find it from the main menu.

I’m also working on a general revamp of the site to freshen things up, and I’ll be filling a few more sketching demos, which will be on my Youtube channel later this weekend.

Meanwhile, here’s a demo piece from my workshop last weekend ( who knew It’d be the last for a while?)

Strange times….

Well….isn’t life a bit odd at the moment to say the least? The situation seems to escalate almost hourly with differing advice from all sides. Sadly, but understandably, I’ve had many demos and workshops cancelled, or at least postponed till later in the year, as art clubs and societies decide not to put their (often older) membership at any more risk than is sensible. I’ve also reluctantly decided to cancel the workshop scheduled for March 28 in Ilkley……if you’re booked on this and haven’t seen my email from earlier, just check and let me know which date you’d like to transfer your booking to.

Here’s hoping that we’ll be over this in a matter of weeks, and by the summer, back to some semblance of normality. One upside though is that I’ll have a lot more time than I’d planned, to do a lot of drawing and painting…it may well be that I’m ready for this year’s Staithes Festival well in advance -that’ll be a first!!! I’ll also be able to do a few more instructional Youtube clips…

So, on a brighter note, I had a trip to The Old School Gallery in Muker last week, with 5 new pieces … you can read all about it below, and more optimistically there is a school of thought that people may think a trip to the fresh air of the Yorkshire Dales is just the tonic!

This is one of the five new drawings-with-colour now safely in the Old School Gallery

I’m not going to win a BAFTA…

In response to many requests I’ve started a video channel over on Youtube, and have uploaded a few test videos. I must say the reaction has been very positive so far, so I’ll be continuing the project, mainly short demonstrations of how I create a line and wash drawing, then, when I get to grips with the mechanics of filming-lighting, music, commentary ( or not), I will progress to longer features.

Here’s the link to my last clip, and you should be able to find the others easily…..if you want to, you can always subscribe to my channel so you’ll be notified when I post a new film. Constructive feedback and critiscm is always more than welcome, of course.
