a new calendar

I’m delighted to announce my new calendar for 2023, which is now available on my Etsy shop:

https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1277451262/a4-wall-calendar-for-2023-one-month-per?ref=listings_manager_grid

It features 12 new drawings-with-colour, and will make a great gift, for yourself, or someone else. It’s also a good way to note down the dates for my 2023 workshop bookings, which, I’m happy to say, are coming in thick and fast. I’ll be publishing a list of these before the end of September, so keep an eye out for that…

Art showcase at RHS harlow carr

AS I write this, I’m up to my eyes in final prep for an exciting month-long event hosted by Just Makers of Ripley, and being run (superbly well) by the lovely Katherine Whitby. The event runs from this Thursday (7 July) until the 7 August: I’ll have lots of new works available, some new cards and the very first copies of my new Yorkshire Sketchbook , which will also be viable from my Etsy shop from the same day….

The Art Showcase also features the work of 30 other artists and makers, so do pop in if you’re in the area: the venue is stunning and the surroundings of the RHS gardens at Harlow Carr are just sublime….a great day out in Yorkshire-what’s not to like?

a new video on the youtubes

After far too long (almost as long as the gap between Bond movies), I’ve just recorded and uploaded to Youtube, a short video demo of a really nifty little watercolour technique I’ve been using….you can have a look here, if you so desire…

Workshop places……

We’re well into the lovely spring/summer workshop season now, and I thought I’d just highlight a couple of imminent ones where I know there are still spaces, so if you fancy a day’s drawing, painting and chatting with like-minded artists in a convivial venue…

First is my own workshop in the lovely town of Ilkley ( voted best place to live by the Sunday Times recently)on the 22 May – only a few days away, I know, but there are still places left, so if this interests you, drop me an email and I’ll send you the information….

Secondly: a new venue for me- Hare Hill Barn near Cartmel in southern Cumbria..two days of workshops on the 14 & 15 June.

All details of the day with spaces and booking information are on their website

Thirdly: another pair of workshop days in a simply stunning venue -Quirky Workshops in the lovely village of Greystoke, near Penrith.

There are still places left on the Wednesday- details on their website:

And, fourthly , another venue new to me for this year: the breathtaking surroundings of Thorp Perrow Arboretum in North Yorkshire. Again, booking details are in the ‘events’ tab on their website

A new Youtube video

After far too long a gap, I just uploaded a very quick demonstration of my technique of applying selective watercolour washes to a line drawing. Hope you enjoy it…

A new handout

I’m currently in the midst of a bit of a refresh of all my publicity material ( including this very website…an exciting new look will be along very soon!) and I’ve included a short list of materials and equipment, in response to quite a few requests: here’s the relevant page from my handout, which I include with all my Etsy sales, and at demos and workshops.

If you’d like a copy rather than look at it onscreen, juts drop me an email and I’ll happily pop one in the post.

A new book of drawings….

I’ve just listed across on my Etsy shop, a brand new book of drawings, selected ( or curated if we’re being posh) from the last ten years. You can find it by clicking on the Etsy link at the right of this……

This book has more pages than previous ones, and on better paper, hence the (very) slight price differential.

I usually print a new book annually in time for the Staithes Festival of art, but as that has sadly been permanently cancelled, I brought my book forward and had to think of a new theme:

I’ve actually been drawing for much longer than the ten years suggested by the title of this collection, but it seemed like a suitable marker for a new book of drawings:  it’s coming up to a decade since my lifelong drawing habit blossomed into something quite unexpected, when I suddenly found myself being asked to run workshops and demos, to stand up in front of other artists, spout pearls of wisdom and knowledge – in other words, to teach! I’m amazed at and grateful for the experiences that this has led to: meeting groups of keen artists up and down the land; connecting with a global audience via social media ( between the various platforms and YouTube, I somehow seem to have amassed over 38,000 followers!); featured in several magazines, and even a couple of appearances on the telly box!
