I’m delighted to be returning to this amazing venue in southern Lakeland to run two days of workshops in the summer.
BUILDINGS IN THE LANDSCAPE IN PEN AND WASH
£75.00
Course Date: Tuesday, 22nd July or Wednesday, 23rd July 2025
Time of Course: 10am to 4pm
Cost: £75 to include lunch and refreshments
Try your hand at “Line & Wash” – the creation of a pen and ink sketch tinted with a wash of coloured ink or watercolour – with landscape artist John Harrison. You will start the day with an introduction to John’s particular style of line and wash, and the importance he places on drawing and sketching.
After the short introduction, John will demonstrate a painting (in stages) using his style and techniques, which you will then re-create under his guidance. The afternoon will then be spent working on a second painting, from your choice of a selection of reference photographs that will be supplied. During this time, you will have plenty of advice and encouragement from John as you work through your painting.
John’s favoured subject matter features built structures in the wider landscape, exploring the contrast between the man-made and the natural. Largely self-taught, he does not consider himself a painter, but uses the unpredictable yet exciting medium of watercolour to highlight his drawings. He is an active Urban Sketcher, and runs many workshops and classes. His work is in many private collections both in the UK and internationally. He undertakes commissions both private and corporate and has recently had a book on the techniques you will learn – Pen and Wash – commissioned and published by a leading art publisher, with a second book ‘in the works”.
Homemade refreshments will be available throughout the day and a two course lunch will be provided.
If we are fully booked please get in touch to be put on a waiting list or find out about further dates available.
