SUMMARY:A full day pen and wash workshop at  Ilkley Studios\, organised by 
 me.
DESCRIPTION:\nI’m delighted to announce the resumption of my own pen and 
 wash workshops in the iconic Yorkshire town of Ilkley\, after far too long
  a gap.\n\nThe workshop:\n\nThe day will consist of a demonstration by me 
 (in stages)\, after each of which you will have a go at implementing the t
 echniques I’ve just shown. Depending on the working pace with which you
 ’re comfortable\, there will also be the opportunity to start( or even c
 omplete) a second piece: the inspiration for your work will be from a sele
 ction of reference photos that I’ll supply.\n\nYou’ll just need your u
 sual painting gear: watercolours\; brushes larger brushes(size 8 and above
 ) will be best for loose expressive washes\; a soft pencil (2B is perfect)
 \; a fineline pen with waterproof ink ( this is intrinsic to my working pr
 ocess\, but don’t fret if you can’t easily get hold of one….I’ll h
 ave some with me for purchase on the day. \n\nThe last item that you’ll
  need is some good quality watercolour paper – at least 300 g\, and in e
 ither cold press or roof finish: hot press paper just won’t give you the
  effects I’ll be demonstrating. Again\, don’t worry if you’re not ab
 le to get this -again\, I’ll have some Saunders Waterford 300g to buy.\n
 \nGood quality watercolour paper in loose sheets\, pads or blocks. My  fa
 voured brand is Saunders Waterford 300g rough in a quarter imperial size (
 approx. 15” x 11”) but any equivalent good quality paper will do. The 
 paper we choose to paint on is the foundation of our work—and like a hou
 se\, a good foundation is critical for the success of a painting: good qua
 lity paper is of great importance\, especially for the beginner who is lea
 rning.\n\nThe Venue: \n\nSituated slap bang in the centre of Ilkley\, Ilk
 ley Art Studios occupies a lovely stone cottage in the grounds of the Mano
 r House. There’s no parking at the venue\, but there is a large car park
  less than five minutes’ level walk away.\n\nAlternatively\, the bus an
 d train station is just over 10 minutes’ walk\, if you prefer to use pub
 lic transport. \n\n The cost:\n\nThe full day is £65 per person\, to in
 clude tea (Yorkshire of course)\, coffee and snacks\, but not lunch. There
  are a good number of cafes and takeaway shops within easy walking distanc
 e\, and you’re very welcome to bring your own food.\n\nThe dates:\n\nThe
  workshop will run on Saturday May 16  and 24 October- the workshop conte
 nt will vary for each of the two dates\, although the underlying technique
