book news & lake district workshop spaces in 2023

Firstly, apologies for the lack of updates- if you’re a follower of mine on Instagram, you may know that I’ve been commissioned to write a technique book on my style of pen and wash. I’m about halfway through the text, and just making a start on the 150 new illustrations my publisher has asked for, so it’s been a little busy!

There are a few places available on a couple of workshops in the next few months, so I thought I’d post here, rather than direct you to the workshops page. These are still open at the time of writing, so be quick if you want to join me and a bunch of like-minded artists in great venues.

First is two days of workshops at hare Hill Barn- a simply breathtaking venue with outstanding views, in the southern Lake District. You can book using this link:

Next is again, two days of workshops on consecutive days- basically the same content on each day, although I do vary each day as some folk have booked both -at another fabulous venue near Penrith at the eastern edge of the Lake District: Quirky Workshops. Book using this link:

Last, but by no means least, is a workshop in a new venue to me: Beetham Nurseries near Kendal. I ran my first workshop there just last weekend: a great day in stunning surroundings with a lovely bunch of very keen artists, and I’m so looking forward to my return visit in September: You can book using this link:

  1. Hello John.
I’m still waiting to see you online some day. Wonderful about the book. You will gain new fans with it, I’m sure. I am breaking out my stick pens and preparing the nibs. It will be interesting to redo some of your lessons in the old way. Ha.
Stay busy. Work well. Stay healthy.
    Sandra

  2. I’m so thrilled to see these new adventures of yours~I’ll have to find a way to be one of the first to own your new book. Your classes make me so eager to once again find my way to Yorkshire and draw. A class of yours would be a dream come true. I love your unique style, your personality, your books. It’s so great to see you getting the attention you deserve!
    Best wishes from California
