From my sketchbooks….

Here’s  a selection of recent work from my ever-expanding collection of sketchbooks of various shapes & sizes, together with some recent demo and workshop pieces…Some are very quick studies done in preparation for ‘proper’ paintings, some are simply images I liked at the time, and a couple are digitally coloured versions of an original sketch. Please ask if there’s anything you’d like to see, some of these have been worked up into full on paintings, and are for sale

  1. Dear John
I have been in touch with you before as an admirer of your work and as my relatives used to live nr Whitby

I follow your work on facebook

As my Auntie for many years lived in Lealholm and also flowergate, Whitby and Runswick Bay area I wanted to contact you to enquire further.

My Auntie has sadly passed away and I wanted to send a card relating to Lealholm or Whitby as a Sympathy/Thinking of you card and put a bit more thought and it will be a touching tribute

I wondered if you could send me any images of the named places which you have painted which you think could be appropriate.

or my email at home is louisebrandwood@yahoo.co.uk

    Thank you

    Kind Regards

    Look Forward to your reply

    Louise

    1. Hello Louise, so sorry to hear your news, and I do recall you getting in touch: was it abut pet portraits? I will look through my files and email you those I think might fit -it will be sometime ver the weeknd -is that OK?
      regards
      JOhn

  2. Yes. What’s not to love about pen and wash and a splash of paint. Looking forward to your demo at Darlington Society of Arts.

    1. Hi David
Thanks for your interest… if you look on the home page of my site… there’s a link to my Etsy shop, where you can buy the latest edition.
I’ve had several requests to reprint the earlier ones, too, so I might be adding those back onto the shop.
      John

      1. Thanks john for the info on your sketchbooks, I am interested in back issues especially, hoping you do get some reissued. As a member ofthe Driffield U3A watercolour group expressed a keen interest when one of our members brought in the number 5 sketch book she obtained at one of workshops . Hope to hear soon if these books are to become available again. Thanks in anticipation David

  3. By chance I landed my mouse on your page. I also feel very
happy when I can draw in ink and then a splash of watercolour. It is
such a privilege to be able to do so. It is a gift from God. I am 96
years old, and now retired, but so lucky that my ability to draw is still
with me ! I was a dress designer and graphic artist in my working days. Now in old age I find great comfort in my drawings. Your
sketches are so beautiful. They truly inspire me to use my gift. I also have started my first sketch book that I will leave to my family….
I would like to purchase a sketch book from you. I shall find you
    on line….
    Sincerely, ritamoss@outlook.com

    1. Rita,
How lovely to hear from you, and with such kind words too… thank you.
I love that you’re still drawing at your young age…I can’t imagine not drawing at all.
I would love to see some of your sketches or drawings if you want to share them via email: I can also sort out a copy of my latest sketchbook too.
      My email is john@ drawninyorkshire.com

      Best wishes
      John

  4. Dear John,
I see you have found subject matter in Arkengarthdale…. my ancestors lived there in the 1800’s at a place called Swallowholm. The Dales are beautiful. I am a beginner watercolorist and deeply appreciate your channel on YouTube.
    Thank you.
    Joanne
