Phew!!!!

Apologies for the lack of posts and updates just lately…truth is, I’ve been so busy doing demos and running workshops up and down the I’ve hardly had time to get in front of a computer…I’ll update the workshop page shortly…

Meanwhile,I’m so looking forward to this weekend’s workshop in Stainforth, near Settle for the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust : a full day out sketching then painting in glorious countryside!!! I’ll publish a full report with photos once the day’s over.

In other news, now the official Sky Arts landscape Artist of the Year 2017 trailer has been released, I can officially share with you all the (under wraps until now) news that I took part in the second heat of this competition at Knaresborough Castle, back in June.
Yes, me, on telly,….possibly!!!! The show starts next week(18 October) on Sky Arts, or accessible via the Now TV app if you don’t have Sky.

Here’s a link to the short trailer…I make an appearance briefly around the 30 second mark:

Here’s a screenshot of yours truly being massaged by the fragrant Kathleen Soriano during a moment of artistic angst…I will share the two drawings I did in a post later ….and a brief written snapshot of the very interesting day.

Not long now….

Until the event of the year -for me anyway…the annual Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage. It’s the weekend of 9/10 September 2017 (preview evening Friday 8 September) when the villagers of Staithes  open their cottage doors to the public as temporary galleries for a selling exhibition of work by resident and visiting artists. I will be in Broome Cottage, Mount Pleasant -which is venue 20: right at the top of the village -if you come from the car park along the Old Stubble path, it’s the first venue on the right  as the sea comes into view..and would be delighted to see as many of you as possible over the weekend!

and here’s a quick location map -it’s an update from the one I drew for the very first festival I was at back in 2013

More workshops

I’m delighted to announce I’ve been able to book the studios at Ilkley Art Studio for a series of workshops, following popular demand.

They are:

October Saturday 21, Sunday December 3 and Saturday February 17 next year!

Each one will be slightly different in content, again due to demand: here’s the flyer for the first one, which will follow the format of the successful sketch/painting event back in April: let’s hope the weather’s as kind!

I’ll publish fuller details of the others as we get nearer the dates…at least one will focus more on drawing and the challenges of perspective, but always in the context of line and wash.

Email or send me a message for full details.

Volume 4 of my repro sketchbooks…UPDATE

So, after my last  note, I’m pleased to say that the book has finally gone to print, after many changes to the cover design. I was trying to come up with a clever title for the book, but eventually  settled on a ‘does what it says on the tin’ phrase.

It’s been listed for sale across on my Etsy shop, and delighted to see I had four orders within minutes!!

Here are a couple of photos…

Volume 4 of my sketchbooks ….

……is nearly ready to go to print! I’;m just in the process of reading and re-reading the final page proofs before I press ‘go’…..

I feel very blessed that the previous 3 volumes of my little reproduction sketchbooks have been so well received and I’m delighted that I’m well ahead of my self imposed deadline: I usually have these ready to launch at the Staithes Festival in September, but if all goes to plan, they’ll be ready by the beginning of August!

This will give you a flavour of what the book will look like…

Workshop list

I’m fortunate to have a large number of workshops booked  well into next year, and, after a remark on my event in Ilkley  last week, I thought it would be useful to list the dates and locations, so anyone interested  can perhaps find one nearest?

Many of the workshops are run by art clubs and societies for their own membership, but I know many of them do active welcome visitors to their events, so if any of these interest you, drop me a line and I’ll be more than happy to put you in touch with the folks concerned.

Some are open to all comers though, and I’ve identified those with a capital P for public.

Here they are, in chronological order: I will update the list on monthly basis

*UPDATED 1 December  -the workshop at Ilkley on the 17 February 2018 still has 2 places left…email me for details.
